Fast start for Cooper with Sany

Cooper Specialised Handling has wasted no time in introducing the Sany product to the UK with the delivery of a SANY 4531 fully laden container reach stacker to Rail Freight Services. The machine, supplied with full operational capability, will be used at a South Wales railhead operation.

Operating at multiple sites across the UK, Rail Freight Services is a specialist materials handling and logistics provider offering customers a seamless and fully integrated transportation and handling service for bulk or containerised products from source to delivery point. Its South Wales operation incorporates a daily train, originating from Cumbria, which delivers containerised limestone and dolomite for a manufacturing process in South Wales.

One complete train is unloaded and reloaded in the rail sidings each day and, as the manufacturing facility must be permanently fed, the Sany reach stacker is deemed operation-critical. Cooper therefore ensures any preventative maintenance is scheduled so as not to compromise the operation.

The machine is a standard SRSC 4531G with a 31 tonne lift capability in the second row and is fitted with an EU-compliant Volvo engine, Dana transmission and Kessler axle. It was manufactured at Sany’s new 100 million euro production facility near Dusseldorf in Germany.

Kevin Biddle, Operations Manager for Rail Freight Services, has welcomed the positive impact of the Sany reach stacker, as well as the new business relationship with Cooper Specialised Handling.

He said: “The Sany machine is a welcome addition to our fleet in what is an extremely ‘operation-critical’ site for us. The response we have had from Cooper in meeting our particular heavy lifting requirements has been most refreshing.”

Chris Barnes, General Manager at Cooper Specialised Handling, added: “To have our first Sany machine operating in South Wales in such a high profile and intensive environment is a real boost. We look forward to a fantastic working relationship in delivering real uptime to Rail Freight Services.

“Our ISO accreditations, especially OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety dedicated to working on heavy machinery, has been a huge help with site compliance – especially given that Rail Freight Services shares the same level of compliance as we do across quality, environment and health and safety.”

One of the UK’s leading providers of port and heavy handling solutions, Cooper Specialised Handling is the exclusive dealer for Sany equipment in the UK and Ireland. The company prides itself on working closely with customers to meet specific heavy lifting challenges, rather than acting as a basic product supplier.

Sany’s range of German-built and European-sourced heavy capacity forklifts, reachstackers and empty container handlers meet EU specifications and standards without a hefty price premium. The machines also carry the Cooper warranty and come with UK-based support, creating a highly compelling quality-value proposition for the heavy lifting equipment marketplace.

It is estimated that the Sany reachstacker in use at the South Wales rail head will handle circa 150,000 tonnes of material each year.
